Giacomo de Pass et la sculpture "Éclosion au Sabre"

"Music, Justice and Communication"

Ph.D.Director, Exhibition &Acquisitions at Fordham University- New-York

Enter a Gallery with the Bronze Sculptures by G. de Pass at once one is seduced by the sensuous glow, the light emitted from these polished surfaces. Soon seduction gives way to concentration as each work claims serious involvement.
Is de Pass the Existentialist, Surrealist, Renaissance Classicist, Expressionist? Is his work decorative, narrative, symbolic?
Immediately, then,he complexity of this profoundly imaginative work calls for reflective analysis.
Though a common denominator, call it style, or perhaps treatment of the material, distinguishes these sculptures, neverthelesseach work is distinctly individual. An inspired concept has been pushed to its final irreducible form, weather the theme is music or love, satire or sauciness.(...)
Contrast the tender fantasy of mother and child in "La Maternité" with the audaciousness in "la Féline" .Is the Cat a Woman or Woman a Cat? In, "le Mur de la Communication" the wall joins yet divides the two heads facing in opposite direction. Is an expression of world anger ? One cannot view these sculptures with a simple before-hand conception. The multiplicity of de Pass' Conceptions suggests a challenging daemon's force behind these inspirations.
Whatever the intent of the subject matter, the textures, the flow of melten metals, chiselled to sensuial forms or hard edged planes, call out the forbidden, "Touch". And just as in Greek bronzes yhat exchanged metal for stone, these bronzes have not ceased to be glyptic. The carving is there in the cascading forms in the concentric compositions and in the angular arrangements.
The viewer luxuriates in the gift of these sculptures - the artist's dreams that have been translated into bronzes whose overall virtuosity embraces each minute detail.(...)
Here is Art - as Art should be - that provokes but does not coerce. Its pleasure is sensual but encourages reflection and judgement...and leaves us with "Hasten Back".

The Power and Lyricism of a Creator beyong Reality
By Dame Francoise Tempra

Litght flares, lines flow, melt and disappear, bronze glows of a thousand fires while flesh, silk, feathers and scales perform the eternal dance which states perform the eternal dance which states the undefinable link between reality and mythology, between the passions of Man and his destiny , in Giacomo de Pass' sculpture.
I had the priviledge to see some of the sculptural creations of Giacomo de Pass "emerge into life", at their first state, in his atelier of South of France. I also witnessed the next morning consequence of the night's pictorial "expurgations" as described by himself in the statement: " Sculpture is a passion that , while enslaving me totally with the obsessive idea of creation, keeps my frenzy at bay, restrains my exaltation and fills me with an anger which I expurgate through my painting"
because , he adds:
" The creative act soothes my torments, calms my rage, or prologs my moments of happiness".
Thus , for example, the belligerent "Sabre de la Liberte" spells, with the tremendous eloquence of the canvas, the dire elements of chains, prisoners and jails which, with the exposed entrails of the sacrificed human being, translate with even greater dramatic impact the horror implied by the symbolic and linear bronze of the same title...
Giacomo de Pass' creative furore, be it sculpture, painting or drawing in which his talent has been internationally acclaimed, align him with the great masters.
The desire to reach beyong the material realities of our era is the preoccupation , not only of our lettered men and philosophers, but also that of artists whose vision extend beyong the morrow.
Amongs these exeptionnal visionaries,Giacomo de Pass, sculptor and painter is besides a vibrant echo of his own era, also a prophetic precursor of the twenty first centuty, unvelling to us, new horizons beyond which looms a mystical fascination and a transcendental luminisity.
In his giant bronze sculptures, Giacomo de Pass becomes the eternal mirror of life : he judges our inadequacies, points out our failure to hear and listen to each other, he foretells on our dissensions leading to wars, he becomes philosopher who understands our passions, our talents, our weaknesses...and our fate.
But, above all, Giacomo de Pass remains the magician that makes the bronze perform our wildest dreams of to-day...and to-morrow.
